Day 16 Prayer

Writer's picture: Pastor Selah McLaughlinPastor Selah McLaughlin

Note from Pastor Selah - "In lieu of our Seekers of the Deep column, we are sharing some thoughts and prayers for the families of those lost today in the crash that took the lives of Kobe Bryant, his daughter and others. Seekers of the Deep will return tomorrow. God bless you!"

Today has been surreal. We've all heard the news about Kobe Bryant and his beautiful daughter, Gianna. When a tragic loss happens so suddenly, it can change the trajectory of lives. Kobe was a legend who lived his dream and did it with the upmost skill and excellence. His legacy will live through the lives of millions of fans, especially young children, who I believe will use Kobe's life as an incentive to be their best! And, while the shock is great and the grief is profound for many, there is still hope for tomorrow.

If you have breath in your body, you still have purpose. You still have a hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11 tells us, "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." The story of Kobe's life will reverberate through history. What he accomplished in his 41 years on this earth was phenomenal. He did more in his short time on earth than most do in a lifetime.

It made me think about what legacy was I leaving in the earth if I were to die today? Have I lived a life poured out? Have I operated in all my gifts, talents and anointing at optimal levels? We are all called to different sectors of society; whether it's sports, entertainment, ministry, education, politics, business, etc. Kobe was the BEST at what he did. He put in the sacrifice, practice, discipline and work ethic to seal his legacy. What are we willing to do to make our mark and impact in this world? Each day that we awake, we are given the precious gift of life. If you're reading this, you still have an opportunity to make a difference...Just Do It!

In the words of the Great Kobe Bryant, "Mamba Out!"

From the Father's Heart,

Pastor Selah

Prayer, 01/26/2020

Heavenly Father,

Many of us are hurting today with the loss of Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna, and the others on the helicopter with them. We ask that your Holy Spirit comfort the families, friends and fans. May your love rest upon their hearts as you hold them close to your bosom. Breathe strength and hope into them, and surround them with great grace and your lovingkindness. Where there is overwhelming grief and the shadow of the darkness of death, illuminate our souls with the light of your truth. May we find hope in your Word and remember that you are always with us and you never leave us. You are a present help in the time of need.

John 14:1-3 says, “Don’t worry or surrender to your fear. For you’ve believed in God, now trust and believe in me also. My Father’s house has many dwelling places. If it were otherwise, I would tell you plainly, because I go to prepare a place for you to rest. And when everything is ready, I will come back and take you to myself so that you will be where I am." We will not surrender to fear or be consumed in grief, but we will live, knowing that one day, we too will rest in our heavenly abode, after hearing you say, " Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.’ In Jesus Name we pray, Amen.
