Day 15 Prayer

Writer's picture: Pastor Selah McLaughlinPastor Selah McLaughlin

1 Corinthians 2:10-11 (TPT) - "...Yes, he has revealed to us his inmost heart and deepest mysteries through the Holy Spirit, who constantly explores all things. After all, who can really see into a person’s heart and know his hidden impulses except for that person’s spirit? So it is with God. His thoughts and secrets are only fully understood by his Spirit, the Spirit of God."

Building intimacy with the Lord takes time and consistency. Intimacy is a close, familiar bond; a blending of hearts; a deep understanding; profound affection for someone. We cannot be intimate with someone we don't spend time with. To grow in intimacy, requires a blending of the hearts; where you and the Lord become one.

Jesus said that he and the Father were one (John 10:30). He constantly drew away to spend time in prayer. His drawing away was a result of his passionate love for The Father! In His human form, prayer was the key for his spirit to connect with the Spirit of God and he slipped away to pray every chance he could! There is a sweet spot in the Lord, where we can enter and the world just slips off of us. It is a place where our hearts melt in His presence. It is a spirit-to-Spirit connection where we commune with God, like Adam in the Garden of Eden.

While writing this blog, I realized that some people may not know how to prepare an atmosphere of intimacy with the Lord, or understand the importance of tabernacling (hosting God's Presence) with Him in the Secret Place. Our pursuit of God is as unique for each of us as our fingerprints. There is no one-size-fits-all guideline. The Holy Spirit will draw you to the Father's Heart. You just have to accept the invitation to come away with the King. Some of the things that I do are: 1. Find a quiet place and time where I can be free to worship uninterrupted, 2. Play soft worship or soaking music to set the atmosphere. 3. Turn off my phone. 4. Keep a notebook/journal and pen nearby, 5. Read scripture, 6. Pray in the Holy Spirit to focus my spirit on the Lord, 7. Quiet my heart before the Lord and listen after I've worshiped and prayed. (Often, your mind will try to wander and you'll starting thinking of everything that needs to be done; when that happens just write it down so you can get back to focusing on God.)

Again, the Holy Spirit will lead you in your time of intimacy with the Lord. This is not my time of intercession, where I come before the Lord with my petitions. This is my drawing near to God time. Years ago, when I first started soaking in God's presence, I would be fidgety, and feel like nothing was happening (LOL). I was used to doing a lot of talking to God and warring in the Spirit. Just sitting in His presence and allowing my spirit to commune (to converse together with profound intensity) was foreign to me. But over the years, it has become my identity in Him. I am a Seeker of the Deep, and I pray that you will become one too!

From the Father's Heart,

Pastor Selah

Seekers of the Deep Prayer, 01/25/2020

Heavenly Father,

The more I seek you, the more I find you! The more I find you, the more your love captures my heart and your glory fills my life. I hear you calling my name to come closer, and I come away with you, Beloved! I set apart time to join my heart with yours! In the secret place is where our hearts blend and I become more like you! Holy Spirit, lead me into the deep places of the heart of God. Reveal your mysteries and secrets to me. My heart awaits you, Lord. I still my very being and listen for your heart beat. Help me to discipline my spirit and soul to wait upon you, in Jesus Name, Amen.
